Shagshing Goenpa
During 16th century, Ani Choeten Zangmo founded a small monastery at Shagshing Goenpa. Ani Choeten Zangmo was a daughter of Tamshing Choeje Tenzin Chogyal who was the son of Terton Pemalingpa. As prophesied, Ani Choeten Zangmo settled at Drametse, which was established as the main centre for many small Lhakhangs in the region.
Thus she spread Peling tradition in the Eastern region. Darchen Goenpa was the winter residence of Ani Choeten Zangmo. Ani Choeten Zangmo passed away in a place approx. an hour walk from Darchen goenpa where Shagshing Goenpa is located today and after her demise at that place.. it was renamed as “ Shagshing Goenpa”. Her mortal remains was built into a Kudung Choeten in Drametse monastery.
The Lhakhang has many sacred relics such as a Tshepamey Statue- Buddha of Longevity.
