Yangthang Zabdon Choling temple , one of the four large temples of Ha, is situated on the hiltop of Chubugang in Yangthang village 2920 metres above sea level. The village of Yangthang is three kilometres from the town centre of Ha in the direction of Ha Damthang military camp. If you travel three kilometers on the side road from Yangthang you will come across a bridge called Makazam . Two kilometres further from Makazam is Yangthang Zabdon Choling temple.
According to the it Lodruk Chojung history which is written by late 69th Je khenpo Geshey Geden Rinchen, Yangthang Zabdon Choling Temple was founded by Lama Thinley Gatsho the disciple of Lama Choying Gyatsho who in turn was the disciple of Lama Drakpa Gyatsho, renowned Buddhist master of the seventeenth century. The temple is two-storey structure with an Avalokiteshvara shrine in the lower storey and a shrine of Dharmakaya, Sambhogakaya and Nirmanakaya and the shrine of the lama in the upper storey. Every year a hundred million Mani recitation ceremony is held in Yangthang Zabdon Choling temple for twenty-one days during the first month of the Bhutanese calendar.
A mysterious flower growing in the compound of the Yangthang Gonpa that is located on the hill overlooking Yangthang village. It says that the flower was the mythical Udumbara.
The caretake Asha Kadi of this lhakhang , saying that the plant was believed to be brought there by a Tibetan Drupthob in the 15th Century. The Drupthob was on a lifelong pilgrimage and had promised to plant the last seed of the flower in the place he would end his journey. Yangthang Gonpa was where he was said to have ended his journey, before he returned to Tibet. Along with the flower seed he planted he also left behind a Tashikoma, which he had carried throughout his journey.
